RE: N Ireland road racing cancelled - captainsparkledotcom - 10-02-2023

Just woken up to this news. Not good at all for the Road Racing scene.
Hopefully the Isle of Man won't be impacted too.
Will the Irish calendar be affected?

RE: N Ireland road racing cancelled - captainsparkledotcom - 10-02-2023

Have just read the post from Stephen Watson ( [/url]@winkerwatson1 )

& he has listed -

North West 200
Tandragee 100
Cookstown 100
Armoy Race of Legends
Ulster Grand Prix
Sunflower Trophy
USBK Championship
All Trials events.

So there's more than just the roads!  Confused

MX is ok, apparently.

Am wondering how many 2023 road racing only bikes/teams will be arriving at TT2023 with machines not having ever seen a road circuit...

Insurance is an issue for the MCUI (Motorcycle Union of Ireland) so races in the south of Ireland racing will be affected too. A decision on the running of Kells, Skerries, Walderstown and other road race meetings will be made in the next week. Crossfingers

RE: N Ireland road racing cancelled - AntG - 10-02-2023

I don't get why short circuit racing and trials are being affected by this issue when it's clearly the roads side of the sport which are upping the insurance premiums.

How has motocross escaped this?

RE: N Ireland road racing cancelled - H2pots - 10-02-2023

This is a real disaster for all road racing. Many teams build for a full season of roads events that include the TT and the manx.

I fear this won't get sorted and the fallout could affect the TT and racing on the island.

Are teams going to invest and prepare for just one event in the year? I don't think so.

The TT is the pinnacle of pure road racing but cannot carry the sport single handed.

I fear for the whole road racing future. I'm starting to think we've had the best years and the future is looking bland.

RE: N Ireland road racing cancelled - Chris_Sav - 11-02-2023

We've certainly seen the best years of the island racing go by in my view.

This year will likely be my last.

On the flip side

NW200 have not given up the fight, so possible good news that may cascade.

What i do not understand surely the overall money that all racing makes in ireland .must be more than the insurance, the northwest must be going to lose say a million ,its going to be massive hit on their economy.just does not add up to me

RE: N Ireland road racing cancelled - excollier - 12-02-2023

A gofundme has been created to try to raise the shortfall, enabling all NI road racing to proceed......

Events trying to bring in more money has been demonised by a certain segment of fans, with now disastrous consequences.
