Shakey Byrne Court Case - Hammy - 19-12-2024 Byrne has won his court case against MSV claiming tyre barriers were the cause of his injuries and Air Fencing should have been in place, the judge agreed and awarded case to Byrne, assume this will be a costly settlement. Can see this might have repercussions regarding other race/road circuit events using straw bales etc. with insurance companies insisting on Air Fencing everywhere. RE: Shakey Byrne Court Case - H2pots - 20-12-2024 I would have thought so too but it were a track day, not a race event (I think). The requirements for race events are different to track days etc. Edit... I think it were a practice day, not a track day The ramifications for track day events will be far more reaching. With (now) proven liability to the circuit/organisers, I can see a huge price hike to cover the insurance or the death knell of joe bloggs track days. RE: Shakey Byrne Court Case - Nasher - 20-12-2024 Proven liability of the circuit owners/organisers has been around for about 40 years (Sheene successfully sued Silverstone in the eighties) That said, the insurers may well be demanding circuit safety improvements as well as increasing insurance premiums, this could have a significant affect on costs..... We'll have to wait and see, but I would imagine all circuits will be looking to improve safety, which is obviously a good thing RE: Shakey Byrne Court Case - Sam Pato - 22-12-2024 Agree that safety improvements are no bad thing - but if costs go up then I'm guessing that clubs will struggle to run events. I read somewhere the Wirral100 club are folding, don't know the details but sad news all the same. RE: Shakey Byrne Court Case - Dogsbody - 23-12-2024 Wirral 100 haven’t folded, just not running any race meetings. Lack of entries , riders not paying or promising to pay on day and not turning up because it was raining. They lost money on the meetings they ran this year and cannot subsidise another year. When I raced in the 60/70s entry forms had to be returned the day you got them with a postal order and a stamped addressed envelope and even then you might only get a reserve ride. Many prefer to do track days instead of racing. RE: Shakey Byrne Court Case - Sam Pato - 24-12-2024 Good to hear they are still alive. I'd forgotten what a postal order was till you mentioned it there. The way life has changed even since the 90's is astonishing (entry in the post with a cheque - give the secretary a call to make sure it arrived). Seems a shame that even though more people are riding track miles than ever the clubs aren't benefiting from it. |
