SMB Hailwood MBE GM - Tom Loughridge - 23-03-2006

Twenty Five years ago today Mike Hailwood MBE GM passed away.

He was awarded the George Medal for Bravery for risking his own life by dragging Clay Reggazoni from a blazing F1 car.

Once described by the other great hero Joey Dunlop as the greatest racing motor cyclist ever, I am inclined to agree.

Both humble and modest men who were an enormous credit and great ambassadors for our sport and it is a privilege to say, I knew them both.

RIP.

Ian , that's the best portrait of Mike that I have seen. Well done!

Our thoughts are with the Hailwood family at this sad time. Kudos to the family for participating in the launch of Bike Safe following the memorial service.

Many thanks to Jon Price for organizing the annual Hailwood Memorial Run and for all that he does to preserve the history of our sport.

My sentiments too Tom. I never new Joey but did know Mike,Despite his greatness he treated the also rans like me as equals and a most modest guy he was, despite his great talent. Allways had time for a chat and give you advice ,such as he advised me how to make the veranda one bend. Gone but will never be forgotten R.I.P. Mike
