With the weather once again playing havoc with proceedings at the Ulster Grand Prix, competitors took advantage of a brief break in the torrential rain to get some much needed time on the Dundrod circuit to the west of Belfast.

Disappointed at the cancellation of today's planned Dundrod 150 Road Races because of the continued inclement weather, Hydrex Bike Animal Honda rider Guy Martin was left to concentrate on qualifying for Saturday's races in the three classes he is entered.

Aboard the 600cc Hydrex Bike Animal Honda instead of the Wilson Craig entry he had originally planned on racing, the 26 year old from Kirmington in Lincolnshire posted fifth fastest time in the session, just a second off pole setter Bruce Anstey, and he repeated the feat on the Shaun Muir Racing team's 1000cc Honda Fireblade Superstock machine where he will line up in fifth on the grid also, meaning a second row start in both races.

However, it wasn't such a good qualifying session on the team's Superbike whereby he qualified in eleventh place. Martin ventured out on the track in the wet conditions but as it started to dry, he left it too late to come in and change to intermediate tyres meaning a row five start in Saturday's all important race.

Despite a gloomy weather forecast for the weekend, Martin commented: "If we're not under water by then, I'm confident in all the races as we have got a good base setting on all the bikes. We can certainly do it from row two and row five holds no fears for me either, I'll just get my head down and go. I'm feeling good and the bikes are working well so depending what the weather throws at us, we'll see where we end up. If it ends up tossing it down all day, we may be making an early start in the beer tent!"

Roads close on Saturday at 9.30am with racing scheduled for 10.30am with the 7 lap Superstock race followed by the Supersport race over 7 laps also. The 6 lap 250cc race precedes the Ulster Grand Prix over 8 laps with the second Supersport race (6 laps) and the 7 lap UGPSC Superbike rounding off proceedings before roads open at 6.30pm.
