Two 'elder statesmen' of the chair brigade have gone under the chequered flag recently.
Fred Hanks, head of the Hanks sidecar dynasty, first rode the Sidecar TT in 1955, finally retiring in 1970. Fred also ran the TT Special newspaper for many years.
Fred Wallis rode both solo and sidecar; he also started in 1955 in the Clubmans races, his last TT outing was the 1969 Sidecar races.
