NEW GRANDSTANDS AND ‘FAN-ZONES’ AROUND THE COURSE
TO BE INTRODUCED FOR 2012 ISLE OF MAN TT RACES

Five spectacular spectator areas have been designated as ‘Fan Zones’ for the 2012 Isle of Man TT Races, fuelled by Monster Energy, and each will have a temporary grandstand. The grandstands will have capacity of between 200 and 300 seats each, supplementing the main TT Grandstand on the start/finish line on Glencrutchery Road.

The five areas have been selected for their stunning views of the on track action and represent some of the fastest points on the course. As well as a temporary grandstand, each with around 200 seats, they will also feature catering and toilet facilities, free WiFi, free parking and enhanced PA systems relaying the Manx Radio TT live race commentary.

The five Areas are.

Crosby Jump,
Rhencullen,
Ballacrye,
Ginger Hall
and CregNy Baa

Which are all iconic spots with clear views of the action. Crosby Jump sees riders routinely clocking 180mph as they tackle the crest in the road; Rhencullen, situated north of Kirk Michael, is one of the most spectacular sections of the course, while Ballacrye – a double apex taken in sixth gear -is widely recognised as one of the most demanding points on the course.

The final two ‘fan zones’, both next to famous pubs, are two of the most recognisable landmarks on the course – Ginger Hall at the edge of Sulby Village and The CregNy Baa at the end of the Mountain section of the course. The Grandstand at Ginger Hall offers a clear view of the riders tackling the late apex lefthander on the way into Ramsey while spectators at The Creg will see the riders as they approach from Kate’s Cottage and the sweeping run downhill into Brandish.

Geoff Corkish, MBE, MHK, Political Member, Isle of Man Tourism commented:

“Fans will always have their favourite spots but as the TT Races audience grows we want to make sure that spectators have a wide choice of options for watching the races. Demand for tickets for the Glencrutchery Road Grandstand increases every year and it is likely to have sold out by Christmas so we were keen to offer fans an alternative. We have conducted research that indicates fans are looking for these kind of facilities, and I am delighted we are able to bring them on line in time for TT 2012.”

Tickets for the fanzones, including guaranteed grandstand seat, are available for each of the four race days – Saturday 2nd, Monday 4th, Wednesday 6th and Friday 8th June – and are priced at £25 or £20 for midweek races. They will also be open for final practice with a £5 charge. They are available from Official TT Travel Agency Regency Travel on +44 1624 694455 or via the official website

This news is getting a lot of Bad press of other forums and on facebook, when will the powers to be wake up, fans have not got the money to pay these prices. I think the Creg was only £10 to watch the races last year on the tower side with the little cafe and bar, so whats changed to put the price up to £25

!edited! - the proof will be in the pudding. If people don't want to sit in the Grandstands they will be empty, early ticket sales indicate this won't be the case.

This is being introduced on a break even basis to provide those who want it an improved spectator experience. It is not a major income generator for the TT Races. Any profit it does make will be reinvested in the event going forward.

The Creg was £10 last year to watch the races, that was ok for me and the 2 kids total £30 for the day which was good value. Whats the rate of inflation of the Isle of Man is is high enough to increase the admision to £25 = £75 cant afford that and not many can, nothing will change at the Creg. Its always had the grandstand, toilets, cafe/bar and a good PA sytem. So whats changed, Or will we have some Guy in an ACU suit jugling Golden Eggs during the break. The TT is the TT not a Fecking BSB

The Creg Ny Baa Grandstand was £20 not £10. This was for a scaffold grandstand (compared to the proper seated unit that will be installed for 2012) and toilet facilities were limited versus the volume of fans in the area.

The TT is not BSB, but like BSB and all other high end motorsport events, it costs money to stage. There are a large number of viewing areas in and around the Creg Ny Baa where spectators can enjoy the TT for free. This is just 300 seats.

We paid £10 each to watch at the Creg last year on the Tower side not the pub side, its a fixed grandstand, toilets were ok and clean, food was ok, PA was very good.

Yes i agree it does cost money to put on like all top end motor sports, but how many top end motor sports force families of young children to take time of work to take care of the kids, and what should they do besides losing wages, keep the kids stuck in the house, No you take them out. Just think what people are trying to tell you push the locals much further and take the chance of losing the races.

A lot of races in other parts of the world are being stopped due to the locals being pee'd off

Grandstands won't stop fans sitting on hedges

The five new temporary grandstands for next year's TT, at Crosby Jump, Rhencullen, Ballacrye, Ginger Hall and Creg-ny-Baa, will give the fans greater choice.

That's the view of TT and motorsport development manager Paul Phillips who says the move follows an online survey of suggested improvements.

He says organisers will make a small profit if they sell all the seats, and is reassuring fans it's not the start of a push to move them away from watching free from fields and hedges:
