Joey Dunlop at the 1979 North West 200

A new DVD recounting Ulster road racing legend Joey Dunlop’s victories at the North West 200 will be officially launched at Joey’s Bar in Ballymoney on Thursday evening (8pm).

Produced by Alwyn and Colin James of Waldovision Ltd, the team behind ‘How the North West Was Won’ and ‘Joey Dunlop Remembered,’ the programme is rich in new archive material and reflects on Joey’s 13 victories on the Triangle course between 1979 and 1988.

The 90-minute feature includes four interviews with Joey, racing footage from each of his 13 wins and interviews from the eighties with Dunlop’s rivals including Carl Fogarty, Wayne Gardner, Steve Parrish, Kenny Irons, Alex George, John Newbold and many more.

Co-producer Colin James said:

“There are recent interviews with Carl Fogarty, Keith Huewen, Billy Nutt, Mervyn Whyte, Barry Symmons, Brian Reid and Hector Neill as they reflect on their experiences, plus never-seen-before archive footage and rare photographs which together tell the untold story of this remarkable period in Joey’s racing career.

“Highlights of the programme include an introduction explaining the origins of the North West 200 with unseen early footage, Joey talking us around the circuit with an on-board camera from that period and tribute pieces to past heroes like Tom Herron, Mervyn Robinson and Frank Kennedy.”

The new DVD is presented by BBCNI’s Stephen Watson and will be available from November via Dukevideo.com.
