TT course knowledge
Now I've created an updated blog about the TT course knowledge. There's not bandwith enough to put it here at the TTwebsite. You can reach the blog here:

http://siljasttknowledge.blogspot.se/

If you have a need to comment what's written at the blog, please put all comments on this very thread here at the TTwesite and nowhere else.
There is a link at the blog to get to this thread directly from my blog to make it easier for you. Malcolm is informed..

Best regards,

Silja.

RE: TT course knowledge
The other day I got a booklet from a race enthusiast who I hardly know. He's a member of the Motorcycle Historical Club here in Sweden. I was at the Stockholm section of the club before Christmas with a lecture about Isle of Man and the races there.

Newly he called me and asked if I wanted to get an old book that he owened. I said yes please of course. Now I've looked in it but I've not read it all yeat. It's a fine source full with pictures and information that I didn't know. The booklet is released by BP 1960. Is it a rare book?

There's an interesting map of the Clypse Course in it. As some of you might know, a part of the Clypse Course was the current TT course but it was ridden in a direction that is reverse compared with nowadays.  As far as I know the Clypse Course was used from 1954, and the last races took place 1959. The first year for 125cc and sidecar only and from 1955 as well for the 250cc races.

There are some names on the map that are in places where the current TT course is. Does someone have some additional info about these places. The names are:
Ballaskelly between Brandish and Hillberry, Ballacottier and Slegaby between Creg-ny-Baa and Brandish.

Already mentioned at the TT course knowledge thread is Gob-ny-Geay with another spelling than on the old map. As well some other info about the Clypse Course.

Quote from the TT course knowledge thread:

Gob-ny-Geay Farm 35 On the right. "Mouth of the wind". Also called Sunny Orchard. There's a little track at the side of the farm. It's a boundary line of the sectors used by Marshals and it is called Lanjaghan Lane.

Brandish Corner or O'Donnell's Corner 35.4 http://www.gyrovision.com/panoid/79/100/1 Fast left hander. Named after Walter Brandish who broke a leg here in 1923 which ended his racing career. O'Donnell refers to some owner of land here before 1914. Someone said once that if you ride from Hillberry to Brandish Corner (in the direction followed by the Clypse Course) you are travelling along Telegraph Hill."

Thank you!
Yes I agree now. I have a quite detailed map that I found this morning and all the three names seems to be farms, a quarter mile or more from the edge of the course.
As I understand too far to be mentioned in the TT course knowledge blog. Objections?

What about my book? Is it a rare one, please?

It certainly looks interesting Silja, but one sold on Ebay recently for 99p! (+ £2.98 postage!)

Then again, one went for £10.50!

Hi Silja,

I've used the video of Bruce Anstey's record lap to calculate approximate times from the start of each point on your course knowledge.

I'll email it to you. Please feel free to incorporate it into your next update if you like.

Thank you HammerHead! Message received. I'll read it and put it in to the knowledge thread when I have some time over. I believe that I have to contact Rick Broadbent to clear out if I can quote from his book "The Near Death Thing". Maybe it's enough to ask "Milky"? I mean the question about permission to quote "Milky's" comments that is published in the book. Maybe Duke have the rights for "Milky's" comments on the video? What is the opinion among members here?
Anyone who have contact information about Rick Broadbent, please?

Is "Milky's" info from the video?

Thank You again! All information I get about the course is of course always welcome! As a retired it's impossible to save money for a new trip to the island to check out things. Sad. It seems like it will never more be a journey. For the moment I'll keep the memories bright by the work with the knowledge thread. First time was 1970 latest 2010. 8 times all togeather...so far. You never know.

You are right, you would need the permission of Rick Broadbent to 'publish' Milky's comments from there as part of the knowledge. There are two Milky course guide videos. I'd have thought quoting from them would be OK.

If you Google him you will get a number of links. Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn as well as publisher websites which may pass any email on.
