Lap records current
I've been looking at the race / individual lap records on the current On the current list, and it got me thinking as to what was in my opinion the most impressive

Obviously Bruce's outright at 132.298 mph is the headline there, but I can't look past MD's 600 lap of  128.666mph from 2013 as the one that's stands out to me the most

Also a very worthy mention is Hickys newcomer lap record from last year of 129.104mph

So it's Michaels lap for me, what's your choices?

For me it is the lap MD did on the stock fireblade when he came close to breaking the Superbike lap record !!

He passed McGuinness around the 11th milestone and you would have thought John was on a 600 !

Michaels Supersport lap for me too, if I remember rightly he had a massive wobble on the mountain on that lap too(although that may have been the Superstock lap).

Not exactly a current class but Ralph Bryans' 50cc lap record of 86.49mph from 1966 took some doing.  Wafer thin power band and tyres no wider than a mountain bike.  And it is a current lap record Icon_biggrin

RE: Lap records current
There is only 1 lap record.

If you look at the title of this Thread it says "Lap Records" and I presume that the original poster was meaning all of the different and individual class lap records, subsequently reinforced by the follow up posts.

Yes there is only one OVERALL Lap Record, but to say that this is the only Lap Record is not recognising the efforts of  all other classes and the people who set Lap Records for each of those classes.

Therefore your statement that there is only one Lap Record is factually incorrect.

RE: Lap records current
If the circuit were to be broken up into sectors it is unbelievable that steve Plater considering his short TT experience still holds the absolute fastest's sector times from Ramsey hairpin to the Bungalow and the Bungalow to Cronky-mona. The best ever other sectors times are as below.

1 Start to Glen Helen Michael Dunlop 4m12.031s
2 Glen Helen to Ballaugh Bridge Michael Dunlop  3m04.516s
3 Ballaugh Bridge to Ramsey Hairpin Michael Dunlop 3m13.849s
4 Ramsey to Bungalow Steve Plater 3m13.557s
5 Bungalow to Cronky-mona Steve Plater 2m.15.045s
6 Cronky-mona to Grandstand Michael Rutter 57.417s

Total time 16m56.415s

RE: Lap records current
I spoke to Bruce after his lap record and he was very calm and matter-of-fact about it, which is typical Bruce, but I think anybody who goes out and beats their own personal best has put themselves in uncharted territory and is worthy of mention, and how a newcomer can go out and run at over 129mph is beyond belief. Hats off to them all.

I have no wish to denigrate or ignore anyones achievement. JM130s lap (the only one of the whole meeting in 2007), Hutchys 130+ lap on the stocker in 2010, MDs 600 lap and quick lap on the stocker mentioned above, Nick Crowe's long standing time, Harold Daniel in 1938 and many others were all outstanding.
But who is the TT lap record holder?

This never happened. Nothing good happened before the DED got involved. In fact, nothing at all happened before the DED were involved

RE: Lap records current
Yes I meant the current lap records for all classifications can debate all previous lap records set as and when they were but that's not why I started this thread

I was interested in the debate between the 3 I mentioned each on their own magnificent achievements and definitely not looking over and PB set by any rider but to have a discussion I thought a specific choice be better option
