John Surtees Documentary....
...anyone see it on BBC 2 tonight?
Thoroughly enjoyable, and what a genius. My respect for him has increased to a higher level.

What a great man, not only motorcycle and F1 world champion he's also put something back into motor sport following his son's fatal crash. I found it a surprisingly moving programme.

Fascinating programme about a remarkable man.
Last year The Classic Motor Cycle carried a 2 part article about him, the second part  "Riding with the Maestro" was a talk round a lap of the TT course and is full of insights like "I have a philosophy about corners like Quarter Bridge: you can only lose time on them, not gain any..."
Just who did he upset to stop him getting a knighthood?

Its the second time I've seen the program and I enjoyed it as much this time as last time. I felt the hairs on the back of my neck rising for the TT shots and those of you who know me will realise just how difficult it is to make that happen!

RE: John Surtees Documentary....
I watched this last night and found it very informative viewing . I totally agree that John Surtees derserves a knighthood .
I did some web searching and found this.
Knighthoods are awarded for great achievement. They tend to be awarded to the most eminent actors, captains of industry, or for some extreme sporting achievement.
To which there is no doubt that John Surtees ticks the last box.
These honours are given by the queen but these are from recomendation of the honours committee .
There is main and sub committees within this struture . I do not know why but for some reason John Surtees seems to have been overlooked and maybe a bit of lobbying or nominating might get an award he has rightly earned and deserves.

The above link takes you to an on-line petition that has been going for some time now, in an effort to have John Surtees awarded a Knighthood.

Signed.
It was shown to replace the cancelled Top Gear - nice touch, given Clarkson's hatred and bile towards bikes.
