The ultimate three-day motorcycle festival – World GP Bike Legends – just got even bigger. Five more international racing heroes have confirmed that they will be racing at Jerez, Spain in June 19-21, on classic 125cc, 250cc and 500cc machines. Phil Read – British

Known as ‘The Prince of Speed’, Phil Read is undoubtedly one of the biggest names in motorcycle racing history. He adds no fewer than eight world championship titles to the event’s unparalleled tally. Incredibly he was the first man ever to win world championships in the 125cc, 250cc and 500cc classes, all of which will be in action over the weekend.

Manuel Herreros 'Champi' – Spanish

Nicknamed ‘Champi’, Manuel Herreros is another former World Champion who couldn’t pass up the opportunity to race in the inaugural World GP Bike Legends. The 1989 80cc title-winner competed at international level between 1984-1991, and is in fact the reigning 80cc champion, with the class being discontinued the year after Herreros topped the standings. He also scored a podium finish in the 125cc class at Imola in 1987.

Tadayuki Okada – Japanese

One of the most successful Japanese riders of all time, Okada scored multiple podiums and race wins at 250cc and 500cc levels. He was runner-up in the world championship in both classes, finishing second on a 250cc Honda in 1994 and just behind Mick Doohan on an NSR500 in 1997.

Jorge Martínez 'Aspar' – Spanish

A four-time World Champion, Jorge ‘Aspar’ Martínez is one of the best known riders in grand prix racing. He impressively won both the 80cc and 125cc titles in 1988, and has remained a central part of the grand prix paddock by creating and managing the Aspar Racing Team which is still active in MotoGP.

Carlos Lavado – Venezuelan

Racing from the late 1970s to early 1990s, Lavado adds two more world titles and a new continent to the mix for World GP Bike Legends. Winner of the 1983 and 1986 250cc World Championships aboard Yamaha TZ250 machinery, the South American superstar scored a total of 19 wins and 42 podiums.


The headlining ‘Race of Legends’ showdowns top the bill of unmatched entertainment over the three days, with all the confirmed riders taking part in practice on Friday followed by qualifying and races on Saturday and Sunday. Every entry ticket grants access to the paddock and pits at the iconic Spanish venue plus access to grandstand seating.
