Guy Martin and Triumph set for land speed record attempt

Guy Martin is set to attempt to break the motorcycle land speed record aboard a 1000bhp Triumph Rocket-powered streamliner next month.

The Isle of Man TT star, truck mechanic and TV presenter will pilot the Triumph Rocket Streamliner, powered by two turbo-charged Rocket III motors producing 1000bhp at 9000rpm.

Triumph has a long history in the land speed record books having held the title of ‘World’s Fastest Motorcycle’ from 1955 to 1970 with the exception of a brief 33-day period.

The existing motorcycle land speed record is held by Rocky Robinson, who recorded a speed of 376.363mph on the Top Oil-Ack streamliner in 2010.

The 2015 Triumph Rocket Streamliner features a carbon Kevlar monocoque construction, housing the two turbo-charged 2300cc motors. The motorcycle is 25.5 feet long, two feet wide and three feet tall and is powered by methanol fuel.

The world record attempt will take place at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah between 23rd and 27th August 2015. Final testing for the project will get underway mid-July.

Regardless if you like Guy Martin or not, he not only talks the talk, he walks the walk.

Apparently this was supposed to be a secret... Guy sounded pretty surprised when Chris Kinley asked him about it on the radio yesterday!
