Cadwell Revival to embrace sidecars across the decades

The planning process for the Cadwell Park Sidecar Revival is gathering momentum, and RKB-F1 Motorsport is delighted to reveal the exciting classes and format for the event.

A thrilling combination of modern-day action, and pure nostalgia will make for a once in a lifetime opportunity to witness the great and good from yesteryear, alongside the sleek torpedo which is the racing sidecar outfit of today.

Former World Champions booked to attend include multiple champion Rolf Biland, Frenchman Alain Michel, Steve Abbott, Klaus Klaffenbock, Darren Dixon, and our own Steve Webster MBE and ten times World Champion. These legends of sidecar folk-lore will parade their priceless two-stroke missiles in morning and afternoon sessions on each of the two days. This will be an opportunity for the public to witness the sight, sound and smell of what was a golden period in the sport of three-wheeled racing.

Adding to the nostalgic atmosphere will be races for the Camathias Cup. Named after arguably the most successful sidecar racer never to win a world championship, the series is dedicated to classic sidecars “faithful to the period”, and takes place across Europe.

Cadwell Park is a fitting venue to host the Camathias Cup, now being a sister circuit to Brands Hatch, where Florian Camathias lost his life in 1965.

There will be an open F2 class to enable the “short-chassis” charioteers to demonstrate their skills, with Cadwell being perfectly suited to these 600cc outfits, many of which will have recently returned from Isle of Man TT competition.

As if all of the above were not enough, it is planned to hold no fewer than four races counting towards the Hyundai Heavy Industries British Championship. These are bound to be close fought affairs, particularly as the new regulations allowing 600’s to compete on level terms will be in force.

Supporting this “sidecar-fest” is another step back in time, with GP Original solos adding to the nostalgic feel. These machines are from the day when two-stroke machinery ruled the roost, and there will be examples of exotica from all the main manufacturers of the period.

Finally, back to the modern day, and there will be races for open solo machines up to 1300cc. This class is always well supported and with Cadwell Park being such a popular circuit, a full entry is expected.

Spectators will also have the opportunity to sample the sidecar passenger experience, with taxi rides planned for both days. A modest fee of £25.00 will secure that unique experience of lapping a world-famous circuit, with a superstar driver. All proceeds from this initiative will go to a worthwhile charity.

More information and excitement will be forthcoming as the arrangements unfold, but the Cadwell Sidecar Revival is shaping up to be a “must do” event.
