Mikey Evans takes on Dan Stewart's rides with Wilcock

Mikey Evans made a trip across the water to Barrow last weekend to pick up
the Wilcock Consulting Team bikes that he will campaign this year

Double Manx Grand Prix winner Mikey Evans has landed a good ride for the 2018 season with the Wilcock Consulting Team of Barrow-in-Furness.

Run by Graham Wilcock, the team has been long-time backers of former TT Privateers champion Dan Stewart, who last week announced his retirement from road racing.

’I started talking with Graham before it was confirmed last week that Dan was quitting,’ said Mikey, who picked up a surprise award at Thursday’s Isle of Man Sports Awards presentation, in recognition of his historic MGP double.

’When Dan made his announcement, the team came up with the offer of a 1000 BMW superbike and a Honda 600 for the Supersport races,’ revealed Mikey.

’I’ve also been offered their a ZXR 750 Kawasaki for the Pre-TT Classic and Classic TT.

’I can’t thank Graham [Wilcock] enough for this amazing opportunity. I’m really looking forward to the start of the season.’

Wilcock Consulting are outplacement, recruitment and consultancy specialists servicing the gas and energy industry.

Dan Stewart has been one of the most consistent riders over the Mountain Course this century.

The 42-year-old, who runs his own garage - Bridgegate Motors - in Barrow, has been a regular in the island since 2000 when he made his debut in the Manx Grand Prix, finishing runner-up to Seamus Green in the Senior Newcomers’ class.

He moved straight up to the TT in 2002 and recorded top-10 finishes on no fewer than 17 occasions. His best finish was sixth (three times).

Stewart also contested the NW200 and Ulster GP, in addition to the British Superbike and Superstock championships.

’I will be 43 by this year’s TT. My love of racing is still as strong as when as I was, but juggling running the business with racing at the top level has always been difficult,’ said Dan.

His fastest lap of the Mountain Course is 129.077mph (17min 32.299sec) set on a Honda Fireblade in the 2013 Superbike TT.
entries looking very strong for jurby

To warm-up for the international road racing season, Mikey Evans will be contesting the early rounds of the domestic series at Jurby.

There could well be a number of riders on top-class mounts at the curtain-raiser nest week, with defending champion Ryan Cringle also on a BMW S1000RR, in addition to former number ones Ryan Kneen and Joe Faragher, plus Andrew Dudgeon.

Jamie Cringle has one of the new era 1000cc Suzukis, while Rory Parker and Ozzy Madey have ZX10 Kawasakis.

Brothers Glenn and Nathan Harrison are set to make a return to the Motordrome, so it is all looking good for a week on Sunday, April 18, depending on who actually enters and turns up.

Dan Stewart has been a very classy performer at the TT for many years - probably unlucky not to get a factory ride (I'm assuming that was by choice).  Best of luck to him in his retirement.

Also good to see that Wilcox will be keeping going in the sport and with a very talented young rider.

Over the years Dan broke down twice at our marshalling station, Sulby village, once with a holed radiator and once with faulty ignition. Both times he took it in his stride and stayed in good humour, a thoroughly nice guy, unlike some we've had pull in!

I wish him all the best in his retirement.
