Museum needs help with its TT display

This year marks the 100th running of the TT races and to celebrate the Isle of Man Motor Museum is planning to have a bike on display from every year.

Beginning in 1907, the TT has been run every year aside from 1915-1919 during the First World War, 1940 to 1947 for the Second World War and in 2001 during the foot and mouth outbreak in the UK.

To recognise the occasion, the motor museum in Jurby is arranging a unique display.

They want to feature a bike from every year the races have been run and so far have arranged for 79 years to feature.

They are appealing for help to locate and display bikes from the missing years.

Darren Cunningham, who runs the museum with his dad, Denis, said:

’To celebrate 100 years, we want to have a motorbike on display from each year in chronological order.

’It would be great if they were bikes which raced in the TT, especially some of the really early ones but any bikes from the years would be good.

’Funnily enough it is the most modern bikes that are hard to get as people don’t tend to put modern bikes in displays.’ The museum needs bikes from 1907, 1909, 1910, 1913, 1914, 1923, 1927, 1929, 1930, 1931, 1962, 1966, 1985, 1998, 2003, 2008, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2016 and one for 2019.

Darren said the bikes would ideally be for the season, but the museum is open to offers, especially for TT.

Anyone who may be able to help source bikes can contact the museum on 888333 or email info@isleofmanmotormuseum.com
