The Cookstown& District Motor Cycle Club are saddened to hear of the passing of their esteemed President, Mr Raymond Turkington, who sadly lost his life in a road traffic accident yesterday evening. (28th August).

A successful and respected businessman in the local area, Raymond was a figure at both Motor car and motorcycle race meetings, along with another of his favourite pastimes, Show Jumping.

In the 80s, along with his two great companions, Billy McAlister and Harry Acheson, they formed a small team, known as TMA Racing, from which they sponsored Courtney Junk, on two machines, 250&350 Yamahas.

Sandholes resident, Raymond was also a past Sponsor to the Cookstown 100 road races and was always very supportive of this event.

Despite being in his 80s, Raymond remained an active person, his personality made him many friends across the province and further afield A former competitor in the early 60s went on to become one of the leading members of the club in the 70s, along with Billy, Harry & Tommy McCaughey, they steered the club into a profit-making club and set the precedent for the club that is today.

On behalf of the Cookstown& District Motor Cycle Club, We offer our Deepest Sympathies to his wife, and family and to the Turkington Family circle. Raymond Turkington RIP.
