Wirral 100’s 2021 Racing Season to Open at Oulton Park, Then Four Race Meetings at Anglesey

Now that there is more optimism about the Coronavirus lockdown restrictions being eased in time for the 2021 racing season, Wirral 100 is now able to confirm its racing calendar as follows:

Oulton Park – Saturday 24th April

Anglesey – Saturday & Sunday 22nd & 23rd May (a new date)

Anglesey – Saturday & Sunday 26th & 27th June

Anglesey – Saturday & Sunday 31st July & 1st August

‘Anglesey Grand’ - Saturday & Sunday 9th & 10th October

A Test Day at Anglesey is planned for Saturday 27th March, and it is intended that, as usual, this will include an ACU New Riders’ Course. More precise details will be issued as soon as any easing of the lockdown restrictions in Wales allows the event to take place.

Race-wise, the Club will again be running a full range of championship classes in 2021 – Up to 500cc Allcomers, Formula 400, Twins, Formula 600, Powerbikes, and Open Sidecars, together with Forgotten Era / Classic Bikes, Golden Era Supersport, Pre-Injection, and Pre-Electronics Powerbikes. The plans, published earlier this year, for ‘longer races’, remain intact.

The Club is delighted again, for both sporting content and financial reasons, to be hosting guest classes at certain of the meetings. Once again the two-stroke GP Originals series will be at Oulton Park in April and for the first time the Club will welcome a round of the popular single-cylinder Lansdowne British GP Championship to Anglesey in June; in addition the August meeting will include a round of the emerging ACU 50cc Championship. Threewheeler-wise, the guest classes are the same as recent years - the ACU British Formula 2 Sidecar Championships in June and the FSRA Pre-Injection Championship in April, June and October, the latter competing alongside the Club’s Open Sidecar teams. Not a guest class as such, but once again the Classic races at Oulton Park will incorporate the David Swallow Memorial Race.

So in summary, after the huge disappointments of 2020, the Club has a firm, fairly ambitious plan in place for 2021. This plan will require Covid-19 to be brought increasingly under control and for the lockdown rules and medical advice in England and Wales to be eased to at least the levels seen in England in the autumn, Then, the Club is confident that racing can and will re-commence.

In the meantime the Club sends all its members – officials, marshals, riders and their families – its best wishes for Christmas and the New Year.
