Agreed, it's a travesty that the Ulster has died, best international road race in Ireland by far imo

I know the nw gets the big tv audience and seems the one that gets the sponsorship and funding but having been to both many times over the years, the Ulster is far better, proper in the hedgerows road racing.

I totally agree.
I used to love the Ulster, and a growing disdain for the NW200, which I thought to be an almost pointless flat out blast.
To learn the nuances of Dundrod took a year or three, but to produce a good lap there was very satisfying.
I genuinely hope that Mr McCallen and Co can find a way to resurrect it.

Quick quiz RE: UGP - who is generally considered one of the fastest ever through the flow bog crossroads circa the 90’s? Not a million miles away from us.

If I understand correctly its simply down to commercials. The NW puts a big injection of cash to the coastline towns its on whereas the UGP is more rural and attracts more of a bike racing crowd in lower numbers. Tricky one to fix. Also they have found a way to give good coverage of the NW200 where I don't think I've every seen similar quality (or even TT quality) for the UGP.

But agree 100% - UGP is the better circuit.
Warning Level 0% since 2006

I remember travelling through the Flow Bog in practice for the 1989 Ulster.........right behind James Witham, who lost it big style, and hit the far side of the ditch. It was all in slow motion for me. Anyway he suffered a broken ankle, nothing more, but I always thought about that crash as I raced on that section of the course. Not a spot to choose to jump off!!

It didn’t seem to slow you down.

I seem to remember seeing JW come off there in a race. I could be very wrong.

I'm delighted to hear of the funding. Most sadly I have never been to either but, from what I read and have read, the Ulster will be tempting me over in 2024.

The Ulster is for the hardy fan, but definitely the best of circuits. I haven't missed a UGP between 1992 and 2019 inclusive......if it's on, get to it
