Classic Racing - time for change?
Hi All, I was just thinking about the classic races and how they aren't really classic machines, modern its and pieces and all.

So how about a handy cap system to take this into account? Earlier the year of manufacture, a bigger time credit? I am sure something could be worked out .....

I can see where you are coming from, but IMHO:
it would be almost impossible to police (who/how could tell what parts are 'original', plus the European Parliament could take years to decide on the definition of 'original'!), would everyone have to allow the whole machine to be stripped for examination and who would pay the costs of that?
Much though I agree that age has some advantages, it cannot be a measure of performance - would a 1968 MV500-3 be given a kinder handicap than a 1970's Bonneville?

In a short answer, there can be a ratio provided for engine size and year of manufacture. This can be applied to the times or a + or - time advantage added or taken off. There are races that do this in the UK, but mostly for cars and not bikes. The handicap system has been around for years, but as you say Peter its how you prove the age of your machine.
