Who's the fat lad making a racing comeback?
A little tale from the Southern 100 2008.

Alan Warner(my ex-sidecar driver): 'Any truth you want to do the last three Jurby's with me?'

Me: 'No'

Alan:'Good, I have entered the last three with you as passenger, sort your license out'

Me: 'Censored2......Erm ok'

So I called the ACU and most helpful they were too (Alex in Licensing...said I would mention her helpfulness). 'Download the form, Join a club, We have your pic here, Get your eyes done and fax it back, we will turn it round the same day'

Seems I am back out for the 27th after a three year break and I get my National back! Censored2 Censored2 Censored2

So far I have said yes to Jurby only as I have not ridden or fallen off since Southern 100 2005 but the collarbone still hurts daily so will have to see about other meetings in the future. I want to avoid Roads if I can but never say never right? I recall saying I would not race again!

Wish me luck...I think the fat body is gonna need it....still it is a good cure for constipation smilie and maybe I can become part of Team smilie

Fitz, is the aforementioned S100 crash the famous (probably only, ever, in the history of two/three wheeled motorsport!) one caused by a broken zip on the leathers.........?
Had to ask.....
Mike (Noble-fellow fat bloke and "returnee").
P.S. You're honoured, I just registered purely so I could respond to your post!!!!
P.P.S. Fat "lad"...at your age.....? smilie

Cheers Mike and yes this is the very crash.

To be honest this was the kindest thing that could have happened to those leathers though although I am not sure Harry has ever recovered mentally from the scars!

And compared to you I AM a Lad!

Just for you Fitzy,

It was so funny as I started to read
The thoughts of those who really believe
That sidecar passengers are all just nuts
And pile on the pounds and get oversized butts

But then again the advice they found
From those that struggled with adding the odd pound
From drinking less to going on a run
But definatly avoiding that dreaded sticky bun

So this advice, all aimed at loosing weight
For avoiding that rather enlarged gate
And stopping that which went before
A zipper breaking and ending on the floor

As out of the corner he did speed
His zipper ripped open, somthing he didn't need
Blown inflated like a large balloon
His end it came just far too soon

So people jipped about his size
Called him Fat Lad, he began to realise
So take and heed this great advice
And get something that fitz, it would be nice
When people say one thing and mean another its called politics, when organisers say one thing and mean another its called a mistake, when the ACU say one thing and mean another its called information.

Got one for Larry :-

Oh on that sunny day before June
The old bikes made their merry tune
As the sun glints off their fairings of old
No one huddled up to keep out the cold

Then into view a regular here
It really could bring you a joyful tear
To remember the days of real machines
And the making of many a young boys dreams

So Otto's beamer rounded Stadium into view
A true character on board that we all knew
His pride and joy beneath the seat
Into Castletown corner still very neat

Then suddely without a warning or sound
The ar*e end of Otto suddenly came round
The bearded bloke all clad in black
Ended up on his ar*se and on his back

Pictures of the event round the globe did go
As everyone wondered how you came off goin' that slow
The excuses that were muted were many abound
But all that matters was he ended up on the ground....

Sorry larry, glad it was all ok though, sorry for the quality, done in 5 mins on the back of a beer mat.....

RE: Who's the fat lad making a racing comeback?
Well I survived the day! (Although a bit sore this morning but that is called Sunburn Lol

1st and ONLY practice session was 4 laps and I tried far too hard to try to get everything right and really struggled with getting my grip right for the fast changes of direction. According to Ex-World Championship competitor Dave Molyneux it is a 'Busy Circuit' and Matty Sayle described it as one of the most technically demanding circuits he has ridden at.

So we used the first race as a second practice session and started from the back of the grid. I managed to make some adjustments and got the G-Forces working for me on direction changes which made life easier although I was still not relaxed and my arms pumped badly. We finished 8th and out fastest lap was 1 min 54.

We skipped the second race as it was only 30 mins away and I needed a rest and time to evaluate what we had just done.

Third race of the day we again started from the back and got a reasonably decent start but after two missed gears the main pack got away from us so we passed those we could and once we realized we had got as far up as we were going to get we settled in for that position. We finished 8th and out fastest lap was 1 min 55 Sad

The last race of the day we took up our proper grid slot and got a blinding start and were trading paint with other riders into the first corner. We actually had to back out of the throttle to the chicane as the guys in front braked heavily but they had better drive out that we did. On the final lap we traded positions with Matty Sayle three times. We got past him down the back straight and I thought 'If you want to come past through the final left you are going to have to hit me' as I hung myself out as far as I could. We finished 6th and get this....out fastest last was 1min 46 Big Grin

So today I am a bit sore but looking forward to the next outing on 14th Sept.

Also congrats to Owen Clements (Ruth Laidlows Lad) on a fine debut. Hope the blistered hands don't hurt too much mate.

RE: Who's the fat lad making a racing comeback?
Cheers Dave.

I am thinking that has to be the first or second race as I was getting cocky in the last race of the day. I was out that far that if Matty wanted past on the inside the only way he was going to make it was by hitting me.

And he does not want my weight on his fairing!

Was a brilliant day.....makes me wonder why it took three years to get back on.

I think even Alan secretly enjoyed it.

Also thanks to Helen and everyone else who came up to offer words of encouragement/mock me and generally make me feel happy to be there.
