RE: MK 111 ZEPHYR ( SORRY)
shaun had mk2 and 3 zephyrs, driven and overhauled a mk1,,,i loved the mk 2.but on going up the m1 as one should ! we spent more time watching the fuel gauge going down than the speedo.my first car was a 7hp twin cylinder jowett 1934 but with a long body, how long ? well by taking some seats out my T100 went in longways!!amazing.you have got me going now.before that the first time i didnt ride my bike to a meeting i took it on a 1926 ariel and sidecar chassis.at snetterton the triumph threw a rod.no problem load up off home yes ? no the chassis dropped down untill it was dragging on the road mit sparks.stop sleep under hedge till morn.what do i do now..right take chassis off ride ariel home get mate out to run me back on his speed twin throw chassis in hedge and he towed me home, me on triumph hanging on 80 miles why did he have to run at 60 plus.no fun.1955 that was.motor homes never saw one...to stay on a TT theme we once took our bikes to lime st from euston on the train,,cant do that now...bye

Yeah, buts its not a Reliant Supervan Mayfair, is it?
That was my first step up(?) from different sidecar outfits
It got me and my young family from Staines to the TT and back
85mph on the mountain!
Now THATS scarey

Mind you, I wish I still had my all time favourite toy!!
I once owned a vintage Morgan Aero three wheeler with an 1100cc Matchless engine
The engine itself was interesting as it was liquid cooled
If you could keep your right thumb intact (it had a starting handle!) it was an amazing vehicle
A similar beast lapped Brooklands at 100 mph
Memories.......

Morgan Aero... It was one of those that ignited my passion for speed. I was taken for a run in one when I was 10, and loved every second of it... 3 wheels...motorcycle engine.... you can see where it all came from.
On my way out of it, I burned my leg on the exhaust, and I had the scar for years!

Back in the '60's most racers had Ford Thames 15cwt Vans, the forerunner of the Transit.
Many of us fitted differant differentials to raise top speed, and if you could get the engine from a Consul 375 you had a flyer.

However I was green wth envy when Florian Camathis turned up on the Island with a Zephyr motor in hisYahoo

Spent many a night in the Thames hotel in paddocks all over the place!

Hope your motor gives you a lot of happy hours Shaun.

grotfield or grottos had a zephyr in his thames and the windscreen blew out so he welded brackets behind it to keep the next one in,john lewis had conway motors short nosed ford van with the bike hanging out the back.why did we like driving alongside? cos if he hit a bump the front wheels came up in the air for some distance.most of us had fords with the wipers that stopped working when you had your foot down in pouring rain,on a hill did u lift off or drive blind, with a side valve engine and 3 gears you didnt lift off.the journey was more fraught than the racing.perhaps the witch could raise money for the helicoptor fund by showing the scar !
