According to the latest newsletter from the MGP Riders Association visitor numbers for the MGP are once again up.

For MGP 2008 the number of bikes carried by the Steam Packet during the Manx was up 18% compared to 2006 and is double what it was ten years ago.

Also more marshalls signed on for MGP 2008 that did for the 2007 centenary TT................... including 254 on one day.

Here Cargo,

I am not wanting to put a negative side to next years Manx GP but do you reckon that those numbers will remain high next year? Everyone being credit crunched to the max, redundancies etc.

Also if this has any impact on the visiting numbers, will it also impact on the marshall situation. Is it thought that they will be able to man the roads?

I expect the TT will give some gauge of this,

Hey hum,
Heres hoping for a dry Aug and Sep 09 and a cheaper boat to the Island.Pigfly

RE: MGP news
I think the biggest impact that people will find in the years to come is the individual health insurance cover. Can you imagine how much that will cost.... we could even see it as impossible for people to get travel insurance if they have to declare that they are going to be involved in a dangerous sport. You may find exemptions on your normal travel insurance that will not cover you for marshalling an event such as the TT. We already have Marshal worries, but heaven help us when this kicks in......

BUT one thing it does show is the ever popular event is going from strength to strength, and one that isn't organised by the ACU Events team. Just shows what can be done eh?
When people say one thing and mean another its called politics, when organisers say one thing and mean another its called a mistake, when the ACU say one thing and mean another its called information.
