WORLD CHAMPIONS CLEAN UP AT CROFT

Reeves and Farrance qualified on pole for the two British Championship rounds, racing well under Steve Webster’s existing lap record.

Race one saw the current world champions head the field throughout and shave a further second from the 2004 lap record as they fended off a challenge from fellow world championship riders Ben and Tom Birchall who completed their race in second place. Nearest rivals in the British Championship, Muldoon and Barrett finished in third place to stay in touch with the series leaders Reeves and Farrance.

The second encounter followed the same direction as race one with Reeves and Farrance leading throughout to take the chequered flag for his second victory from the Birchall brothers with Muldoon again having to settle for third place.

With 50 points accrued for the double win at Croft, Reeves and Farrance increase their series lead to 34 points over Muldoon/Barrett but with 100 points still up for grabs the title is far from decided, especially as Reeves is set to miss the next round because of a date clash with the world championship.

Opening the action on Sunday was the annual Mac Hobson Trophy race held each year to honour the Newcastle rider who died at the TT races in 1978. Once again Reeves took the victory ahead of Birchall with Muldoon again finishing in third place.

To round off his victorious weekend at the North Yorkshire circuit Reeves contested the second NEMCRC sidecar race on his F2 outfit. He took the win – his fourth of the weekend – from Lawrie/Connell and Bell/Bell. Such was the pace that Reeves and Farrance equalled the existing lap record.

Reeves and Farrance head south from Croft to Donington Park for their next outing and will contest the F2 British championship round at the Leicestershire circuit on August 10.

Following that they make their way to Croatia for the next round of the 2008 FIM F1 Sidecar championship over the following weekend – August 16/17.
