Cringle, aged 20 and a qualified joiner by trade is presently contesting the one make Triumph Challenge series that runs within the MRO championship meetings and is currently leading the series with two races remaining.

“I decided to enter the Henderson R1 Cup round at Cadwell to see how competitive I was, with a view to riding in either the British Supersport or National Superstock championship next year,” explained Cringle.

Free practice saw Cringle on the bike for the first time and after making a few adjustments to suit his riding style he went on to finish the session in 10th place.

Qualifying saw him again set a time fast enough to claim 10th place and a start from the head of row four – a three by three grid formation is used at Cadwell instead of the usual four riders to a row.

As the race got underway Cringle maintained his position before making progress through to seventh position. But his progress was halted when the race was red-flagged for an incident on lap four and a new race declared over eight laps with the grid set at positions when the race was stopped.

At the restart Cringle found himself in eighth place on the opening lap but he was outpaced by Darren Bellworthy on lap two and relegated to ninth. He remained in touch and was only half a second adrift when the red flag was once again deployed to bring the race to an early end with a result declared at six laps distance.

Cringle was awarded ninth place and seven championship points on his first ride in the series.

“I really enjoyed my time on the R1,” said Cringle. “I struggled a bit with set up for a start but once we had that sorted I soon got to grips with the bike and was really pleased to finish within the top 10. It was good fun out there and the experience has been good for me.”

Cringle will see race action again on September 14 when he defends his series lead in the penultimate round of the Triumph Triple championship at Snetterton in Norfolk. The final round is at Silverstone on September 28 where the series reaches its climax with the final two races run within the British Superbike championship round at the Northamptonshire circuit.
