It is with much sadness that the Southern 100 Club learnt of the passing of Dennis Christian on Saturday 15th August 2020.

Manxman Dennis raced in the first Southern 100 in 1955 finishing fourth in the very first race, the 350cc and later in the day taking 11th place in the 500cc event.

He competed again in 1956 and 1957, returning to race in the classic races at the ‘Southern’ between 1987 and 2000.

2002, saw Dennis move to the Pre-TT Classic taking 13th place in the Singles race on a 350 Jawa.

Away from the Southern 100, Dennis Christian competed in the Manx Grand Prix in 1949 finishing 11th in the Senior race. 1952 saw him take sixth in the Senior, a year later he finished second in the Junior Manx Grand Prix and in 1954, fourth in the Senior.

Moving to the TT in 1956, he achieved his best results, 11th in the Golden Jubilee Senior of 1957.

1986 saw the then Manchester based Manxie return to the Classic Manx Grand Prix taking 17th in the Senior race. Dennis returned each year up to and including 1993 although he did not finish his ‘Manx’ career on a high note, picking up two DNF’s

Dennis was a familiar figure around the Billown Paddock at both the Southern 100 and more recently the Pre-TT Classic Races even after he had hung up his ‘regulation black’ leathers, he was a big friend of Frank Fox.

Always cheerful, Dennis was more than happy to chat about his racing experiences both on and off the Island, his passing leaves another void in the Southern 100 racing history.

Southern 100 Racing pass on their sincere condolences to his family and friends at this sad time.
