Competitors registered from across the globe

The McKinstry Skip Hire Ulster Grand Prix has announced its line up of competitors and looks set to welcome more international visitors than ever before during Bike Week 2011.

Clerk of the Course Noel Johnston said; “I’m very pleased with the final list of competitors this year, which sees entrants from all over the world. European countries such as Finland, Germany, Sweden, Czech Republic, the Netherlands, France, Hungary and of course the UK and Ireland, are all well represented.

“We also have riders from further afield, with teams from Canada, New Zealand and Australia signed up to take part. It’s great to be able to bring these people to Northern Ireland and show them what we have to offer, besides the World’s Fastest Road Race!”
he said.

In addition to these international competitors, there has been increased interest from foreign press this year, with motorcycling correspondents from the Czech Republic, Netherlands and Spain all registered to attend and report back on the action to their respective countries.

Mr Johnston continued; “We’re thrilled that the Ulster Grand Prix is being brought to a worldwide audience with the presence of these international journalists and photographers.

“We already have spectators come to Dundrod from all over the world and this foreign press will undoubtedly help us to build on that in the years to come.”

Tourism Minister Arlene Foster said; "With the recent success of our three Major winning golfers, Northern Ireland's standing on the international sporting stage has never been greater - and this year's Ulster Grand Prix looks set to further enhance this position.

"Not only are competitors travelling from as far afield as Canada, Australia and New Zealand, more foreign journalists than ever before have signed up to come to Northern Ireland to cover the event.

"This will be a tremendous boost to visitor numbers and to our continuing efforts to showcase Northern Ireland and what it has to offer tourists and road racing fans right around the world."

Councillor Thomas Beckett, Chairman of the Council’s Leisure Services Committee, said; “Lisburn City Council is very much looking forward to welcoming visitors from around the world to Dundrod this August. This year’s event is expected to offer a lot of action with such competitive talent coming to Dundrod to compete for first place in the World’s Fastest Road Race.

“It is hoped that the visitors to the races will take the opportunity to explore what Lisburn and the surrounding area has to offer in terms of retail, leisure activities and cuisine,”
he said.

The all star line up including Honda TT Legends John McGuinness and Keith Amor; local favourites Ryan Farquhar, William Dunlop and Michael Dunlop; and many more road racing stars such as Guy Martin, Cameron Donald and Gary Johnson will compete around the infamous 7 mile Dundrod circuit.

Bike Week will run in Dundrod, Co. Antrim from 7 – 13 August.
