Who Runs The Sport - One Mans Opinion
.
World Superbike champion Carlos Checa has claimed that MotoGP is struggling in the midst of a power battle between the promoter and the manufacturers, and has claimed that Moto2 “cannot work” as a concept on the world stage.

A proposal for new rules from 2013 onwards is currently being drafted by the manufacturers association, MSMA, with an aim to keep costs down whilst maintaining the development of exciting prototypes. The MotoGP promoter, Dorna Sports, has issued a deadline of the three-day test at Jerez in two weeks’ time for the proposals to be finalised.

But Checa believes that the manufacturers, particularly Honda, are seeking too much power in the running of the MotoGP series and that concepts such as CRT bikes and Moto2 need to be reconsidered.

Commenting on the current issues facing the premier class Checa said:

“It’s the victim of a power struggle between Dorna and the manufacturers, especially Honda. It is clear that MotoGP is struggling right now. A true world championship needs manufacturer participation, and they don’t really have that now.

“If you look at any motorcycle parking lot, you see all of the manufacturers represented, but it’s not like that now in MotoGP. And even Moto2 has the same problem: you can’t have a single engine series on the world level.”

When asked about the issue of CRT bikes, Checa replied “I think that sooner or later they need to sit down and talk. They are running the risk of damaging both championships”.

Do Honda have too much to say about how things are run in all areas of motorcycle sport ?
