Tommy Hill maintained his position at the top of the times following the second free practice session for the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship at Brands Hatch as again the final times saw the top 20 riders covered by just 0.892 seconds.

Hill said:

"We are making good progress; we started the weekend with a few issues but the team worked hard and we seem to have fixed it. Now today we have been able to work on some different chassis changes; I am ready to start pushing on and looking forward to qualifying tomorrow."

Hill had begun the session by setting the pace from Buildbase BMW's Barry Burrell who remained in the top five for the early part of the second free practice. As Hill continued to keep his position as the fastest rider on circuit he was then challenged by Shane 'Shakey' Byrne, who after spending the opening ten minutes of the session in the garage, went third fastest on his first stint on circuit before moving to the top with just over 25 minutes of the session remaining.

Byrne headed the field at the halfway point from Hill, Burrell and Alex Lowes who had moved up the order on the WFR Honda ahead of Michael Laverty and Josh Brookes. The session was then briefly red flagged when Barry Burrell crashed the Buildbase BMW at Cooper Straight with 20 minutes remaining; he was unhurt but the damage meant he could not complete the session. Burrell, despite not completing the final 20 minutes was seventh fastest.

Graeme Gowland returned to the top three after the session resumed with Ian Lowry on the Padgetts Honda also posting an improvement to move fourth ahead of Lowes. Byrne was sixth fastest as the times improved in the final minutes with Chris Walker, Dan Linfoot and Stuart Easton completing the top ten.

Josh Brookes on the Tyco Suzuki was eleventh fastest after he was nudged outside the top ten, with Swan Yamaha's Noriyuki Haga 17th, 0.711s adrift of his team-mate.
