Josh Brookes fired the Tyco Suzuki to the top of the times in the final minute of second free practice at Oulton Park this afternoon as he set the fastest lap of the weekend so far to put him ahead of Shane 'Shakey' Byrne and Tommy Hill in Cheshire.

As the countdown continues to tomorrow's qualifying session and opening race the Australian stole the advantage, after leading the early stages of the second free practice. Byrne then moved second in the final minute, pushing Hill from first to third in the space of one lap.

Brookes said:

"The weekend started the usual way for us; we left the Tyco Suzuki how we last had it and then moved in the direction we needed to suit this track. I normally build up over the weekend but here we were able to be up there straight away. We quickly found some chatter problems, but we made some changes to the front and rear and it helped to go quicker. We also tried the SC2 tyre but we didn't see a big benefit with that, but at least we have tried it. We were happy with our speed but we dropped a few places to Shakey and with some other changes to the front we were able to do that quickest lap. So all in all, a good day for the Tyco Suzuki team."

Alastair Seeley had been running fastest when the session was halted briefly for track contamination, he dropped to fourth in the closing stages to remain ahead of championship leader Ian Lowry. Chris Walker was sixth ahead of a BMW charge led by Patric Muff on the Supersonic machine from Dan Linfoot and Tommy Bridewell. Samsung Honda's Michael Laverty rounded out the top ten on the leading Samsung Honda.
