Re: New Year Teaser.
O.K. lets reverse the scene.

What footballer was seriously injured and went on to race motorcycles?

Only one hint, L.G. Devlin is barred from answering.

Get your thinking caps on,

Re: New Year Teaser.
This could be a bit before my time , but would it be someone by the name of R.L.Hoey, or someone with a name similar, I remember my late Dad talking about this rider , did he live about Glengormley , and play for Glenavon ?????????
If the name is wrong , dont tell me , I must get this right !!!.
Happy New Year to All.

Re: New Year Teaser.
Have been thinking a bit more , would the name Jimmy Jones be more appropiate ?????, did he come from thse Glengormley area ?? , now this may be way off track , but were these two aforementioned names related in any way ????

Re: New Year Teaser.
Baylon one of the two names is correct, with the date of this posting you should be able to identify the correct answer.

Happy New Year,

Big D.

Re: New Year Teaser.
Baylon, R L Hoey (Bertie) was a road racer in National events and a leading member of the Ulster MCC who contributed greatly to the organisation and running of the Ulster GP.

Sadly, he was killed in a road accident the night before the Mid Antrim in 1948, a race in which he was due to compete.

I think that Glengormley is right, but I never knew that he was a footballer.

Re: New Year Teaser.
Hi Larry , my first guess was R.L.Hoey , but when the name Jimmy Jones registered with me , i thought - hey thats who I remember my Late Dad talking about , Mr Hoey may not have played football , I think he used to have a garage on the road leading into Glengormley ( from the Antrim direction ) .
Happy New Year .
