Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki's Shane 'Shakey' Byrne scored the inaugural Silverstone 200 pole position as the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship title contender improved his time on the final lap of the qualifying session.

Byrne improved his time from yesterday to take the pole position and speaking after the session said:

To be honest we took it steady in that session and continued to use it as a big test that we can put to use for the next BSB events. I had a bit of fun with Sam (Lowes) and it is a bit of cat and mouse and watching him was quite fun and the contrast of where he is fast with traction control and then we are faster."

The second Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki of Stuart Easton was second fastest with the PTR Honda's swapping places in the closing stages as Lowes moved ahead of Frenchman Jules Cluzel with Oxford TAG Triumph's Christian Iddon in fifth heading row two. Jonathan Railton edged ahead of Luke Jones to be the fastest of the non BSB specification 1000cc riders on circuit with the opening race today at 18:05.

Silverstone 200, qualifying result:

Shane Byrne (Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki) 2m:09.436s
Stuart Easton (Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki) +0.616s
Sam Lowes (Bogdanka PTR Honda) +0.683s
Jules Cluzel (PTR Honda) +1.116s
Christian Iddon (Oxford TAG Triumph) +1.615s
