Smiths (Gloucester) Racing Triumph's Luke Mossey claimed a historic pole position in the final seconds of the qualifying session for the Motorpoint British Supersport Championship protected by Datatag as championship leader Jack Kennedy disastrously crashed out and will start from the back of the grid.

Kennedy had only completed a handful of laps before he crashed out at turn eight and the MarTrain Yamaha rider was able to return to the circuit in the final minutes but it wasn't enough to put him further up the order and he will start this afternoon's Sprint race from 31st. It was also a disappointing session for his main title rival Glen Richards; the second of the Smiths (Gloucester) Racing Triumph's will start from the third row in twelfth position.

Double M Yamaha's David Paton stormed to the top of the times in the final ten minutes and looked set to seal the pole position but Mossey's last lap relegated him to second place as he starts from the front row for the first time this season. Christian Iddon, who had also had a turn at the top of the times, will start third with Ben Wilson completing the front row.

Luke Jones was the leading Supersport Cup competitor to lead the charge on row five, with Tyco Suzuki's PJ Jacobsen starting seventh on his debut in the class. Seton Tuning Yamaha's Raymond Schouten, who ran inside the top five yesterday will start tenth.
