Glen Richards regained the lead in the chase for the Motorpoint British Supersport Championship title at Silverstone last weekend as former standings leader Jack Kennedy crashed out of contention in the Sprint race leaving just 12.5 points between the pair ahead of the final round at Brands Hatch.

In the Sprint race Kennedy was running fifth on the opening lap whilst Richards took the advantage on his Smiths (Gloucester) Triumph at the front of the field ahead of the Oxford TAG Triumph duo of Iddon and Richard Cooper plus Gearlink Kawasaki’s Ben Wilson. Kennedy soon moved up to third but he lost the front end at of his MarTrain Yamaha at the Loop and crashed. Richards continued to lead but Iddon pushed through to take his second win of the season on the final lap. Richards had to settle for second, with Cooper fighting back into third.

In the Feature race Gearlink Kawasaki’s Wilson celebrated his first win of the Motorpoint British Supersport Championship to the delight of his team after fighting off the challenges from Cooper in the closing stages. The leading pack were fighting hard throughout the opening stages of the race as Wilson took the lead from Iddon. Championship contender Kennedy was able to make a move to hit the front of the field a lap later, but it was short lived as the Gearlink Kawasaki rider made a determined move to regain the position.

Iddon moved back ahead in a string of hectic laps, but then Cooper made a move from third to first to lead the Oxford TAG Triumph and Gearlink Kawasaki. Wilson moved back ahead and despite coming under pressure in the closing stages from Kennedy he was able to reward the team with victory from Cooper. Iddon claimed the final podium position after pushing Kennedy back to fourth on the final lap with Graeme Gowland completing the top five. Championship leader Glen Richards finished sixth.
