BYRNE AND PBM GUNNING FOR TITLE NUMBER THREE

The final round of an enthralling 2012 MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship season takes place at Brands Hatch in Kent this weekend with series leader Shane 'Shakey' Byrne looking to claim his third BSB crown.

The Rapid Solicitors Racing Team rider leads by nine points going into the final three races and hopes to repeat his dominance on the 2.43-mile Grand Prix track whereby he has won the last four BSB races there in succession.

Now recovered from his nasty shoulder injury sustained in August at Cadwell Park, the local ace from the Isle of Sheppey arrives as hot favourite to add to his title successes of 2003 and 2008, at the track where he has also won two World Superbike races.

The first of those crowns came with his current Paul Bird Motorsport team aboard a Ducati and adding in Steve Hislop's 2002 success for the Penrith-based team, if Shakey lands the title it will be the team's third British Superbike Championship also.

Scottish team-mate Stuart Easton is hoping to bounce back after technical gremlins thwarted his chances at Silverstone last time out and Ulsterman Keith Farmer, who wrapped up the Metzeler National Superstock 1000 Championship at Silverstone, will be looking to end the season in style with a victory.

Whilst all eyes will be focused on Byrne's Brands Hatch bid, it's another busy weekend as the PBM UK MotoGP team are also in action, this time at Motegi in Japan for round 15 of the MotoGP World Championship whereby Cumbria's James Ellison is looking to increase his points tally following a good recent run of form aboard the CRT-specification Aprilia ART.

Phil Borley, Technical Director:

We expect there will be some intense racing at the final round of the British Championship, but after Shakey's dominant performance at the previous Brands Hatch round we know that we are in a strong position. However we are taking nothing for granted and we are fully focussed on achieving our goal of winning another BSB championship with Shakey. For Stuart we are expecting some good results to end what has been a difficult season and Keith can focus fully on winning the last race without having to think about points after already winning the championship. In MotoGP, PBM UK is competing in Japan for the first time and our target with James is to finish closer to, or hopefully challenge, the leading CRT riders."
