Marquez eyes up world title in Australia
[Image: motogplogo.jpg]

Having already amazed with his performances across 2013, Marc Marquez could become the youngest ever MotoGP™ World Champion in Australia this weekend. Should he do so, the 20-year-old will become the first rookie rider to claim the ultimate prize since Kenny Roberts did so 35 years ago, in 1978.

Marquez’s destiny in Australia will depend on the finishing positions of Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jorge Lorenzo and Repsol Honda Team colleague Dani Pedrosa, as well as what the newcomer is able to achieve, but he must finish at least eighth to claim the crown.

Marquez will become World Champion in Australia under the following circumstances:

- Marquez wins and Lorenzo finishes third or lower

- Marquez finishes second, Lorenzo fifth or lower and Pedrosa does not win

- Marquez finishes third, Lorenzo eighth or lower and Pedrosa does not win

- Marquez finishes fourth, Lorenzo 11th or lower and Pedrosa does not win or finish second

- Marquez finishes fifth, Lorenzo 13th or lower and Pedrosa does not finish on the podium

- Marquez finishes sixth, Lorenzo 14th or lower and Pedrosa does not finish on the podium

- Marquez finishes seventh, Lorenzo 15th or lower and Pedrosa does not finish on the podium

- Marquez finishes eighth, Lorenzo fails to score and Pedrosa does not finish in the top four

Last year, Marquez sealed the Moto2™ world title on the same Phillip Island circuit.
