Moto2™ newcomer Sam Lowes has undergone surgery after breaking his right collarbone in a Jerez testing accident on Wednesday.

Following in the footsteps of Cal Crutchlow by clinching the World Supersport title in 2013, next year Lowes will make his World Championship debut as he joins Moto2™ with the Speed Up team.

During the final post-season 2013 test in Spain this week before the testing ban kicks into action, Lowes crashed and injured himself in the process.

‘Had great test but small crash today,’ Lowes tweeted on Wednesday night. ‘Fell awkward on shoulder and dislocated and broke collarbone! Operation at 10 tonight to get fixed! BUT had fantastic test worked through lots of things loving bike and team and surprised by our own pace and consistency! Cannot wait for FEB.’

Following the accident, Lowes’ surgery took place on Wednesday night. The Lincoln rider now continues his recovery ahead of the New Year.
