Tommy Bridewell fired himself ahead of MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship leader Shane 'Shakey' Byrne in the second free practice session at Thruxton with the top 16 riders covered by an incredible 0.994s this afternoon.

At the start of the session Dan Linfoot and the Quattro Plant Kawasaki moved ahead, but it wasn't long before Michael Rutter put the Bathams BMW at the top of the timesheets as the times shuffled throughout the top 15.

Millsport Ducati then pushed them down the order as Jakub Smrz moved into the top spot ahead of Byrne who had also been improving his pace. However in the closing stages Bridewell had the edge to land the Milwaukee Yamaha ahead of his rivals with Byrne in second and Rutter third.

Smrz held off Ryuichi Kiyonari for fourth place as the Buildbase BMW team moved up the order in the closing stages from Linfoot and an improving Peter Hickman on the RAF Reserves Honda. The second Milwaukee Yamaha of Josh Brookes was eighth fastest with Chris Walker on the Lloyds British GBmoto Racing Kawasaki and Richard Cooper on the Anvil Hire TAG Kawasaki completing the top ten.
