As well as biking items there was a microwave oven, coffee maker, hair dryer, battery charger and weekend breaks on offer

Friday’s fundraising auction for the Hogg charity is expected to raise around £6,000.

The annual event is organised by the Hogg family in memory of TT rider Phil Hogg and raises money for medical equipment and to support the Hogg rescue ambulances used at motorsport events, including the TT and Manx Grand Prix, around the island.

The event took place at the Palace Hotel in Douglas, where a multitude of motorcycle and motorcycle racing items were auctioned or raffled. The event also sees an eclectic variety of non-biking lots too, which this year ranged from kitchen equipment to weekend breaks.

Phil Hogg’s brother, Shaun, along with parents Alec and Sheila, have been collecting and storing items generously donated by well-wishers, many of them stored at Shaun’s home in Castlemona Avenue prior to the auction.

‘It was good successful event again thanks to everyone who supported it and we are now just tidying up the loose ends for this year,’ Shaun said.

Top seller this year, donated by David and Suzanne Williams, was a few days’ break in a lodge in the Lake District which went for a top bid of £400.

A group photograph taken at the TT launch, not only showing but also signed by most of the top riders was also a favourite among the bidders, eventually making £200. Shaun said the picture included signatures from most of the contemporary top riders including John McGuinness, Bruce Anstey, Conor Cummins and Michael Dunlop, as well as David Molyneux and John Holden.

A geniune replica trophy along with a signed canvas donated by TT rider Stephen Oates also went for £200 and a large number of striking photographs, both contemporary and period, fetched anything between £40 and £150.

The event was compered by well-known racing commentator Roy Moore while Shaun and Alec presided over the auction.

The family thanked everyone who contributed to this year’s event.
