Another Course Change ??
"Major changes have been announced for the Braddan Bridge junction, with the aim of reducing accidents and improving traffic flow at peak times.

The Department of Transport says after careful consideration it's been decided to construct two mini roundabouts; one on Braddan School Road around the Jubilee Oak Tree and one one on Saddle Road.

The second will have a removable central island for racing events."

(From Manx Radio)

Will this make any difference ??

Mini roundabouts are the Devil's work - they cause more accidents than they prevent.

The UK, having given in to the fashion some years ago and then subsequently having discovered the drawbacks the hard way, are busily engaged in removing these abortions.

The IOM, 40 years behind the times as usual, are just starting this exercise.

Normally, I'm all for the Manx reactionary philosophy, but in this case . . . . . . . .

Around Jubilee Oak at the left-hander on entering Braddan Bridge, and opposite the Saddle Road junction just as you exit Braddan Bridge.

The new roundabouts being constructed at Braddan Bridge will allow fairer traffic flow for road users from ALL directions, according to the Department of Transport.

The major roadworks project is likely to take until May 2008, so commuters, especially from the East of the island, could be in for a miserable few months of extra delays.

Director of Highways Bruce Hannay says it's a crucial part of the Douglas outer ring road, so speeding up traffic flow there is a priority:

To be fair, I can see why they want to do it. When driving round on open roads that junction is often a bottleneck as people wait to turn right for ages due to oncoming traffic.

Doesn't sound great for the races though and one can only hope it's sensitively designed with the mini roundabouts well off the racing line. Unlike the godawful mess they made of Quarterbridge.
