MGP2024.... What d'ya think of that then?
Posted by: H2pots - 27-08-2024, 07:45 AM - Forum: Manx Grand Prix & Classic TT - Replies (3)

Well, mgp2024 is done and dusted.

I'm still on the island but return Wednesday. I've enjoyed the visit but (obviously) disappointed with the weather as it's kicked the event in the goolies.

I watched practice from bray hill and ramsey. Race days from Morown chapel and the top of bray hill.

Nobody is going to pretend it's been a vintage mgp but it were great to see some kind of racing on Monday, albeit dramatically shortened.

It's not been a total dead loss, we've had nice afternoons but showery evenings (Monday, Wednesday, Sunday all poor, all day though) which threw a spanner in the plans to run qualifying.

I'm glad i were here, I'll be glad to get home and I'll be glad to return next year.

What's your thoughts on this year's manx?

  Monday race day
Posted by: H2pots - 26-08-2024, 08:18 AM - Forum: Manx Grand Prix & Classic TT - Replies (5)

Should be all the races crammed into one day today but that's looking doubtful.

At the time of writing, there's the first delay of one hour. Further announcement at 9:30, I'm fully expecting a further delay. I'm not even heading off yet, no point sitting in the cold rain. I were gonna head to morown but maybe re think that and stick to a place i can escape from.

Rain for most of the morning, not forecast to brighten up until nearer lunchtime.

Rain forecast for this evening too.

Fingers crossed we see something but that's not guaranteed by any means. If it doesn't dry up, this could be the mgp that never was.

A bit of an expensive do

Just had a look at the schedule for Monday all races reduced but 1 lap for the junior classics whats that about its a very expensive 1 lap it might put a few off from coming next year .

Anyone else cancel their trip to the island?
Posted by: Spartacus - 25-08-2024, 12:12 PM - Forum: Manx Grand Prix & Classic TT - Replies (4)

When the Manannan was cancelled early Thursday morning I took a chance and called to receive a full refund for myself and motorcycle. I have booked a weekend at Oliver's Mount in September. Glad I did as I saved over £500.00 with digs and spends. Anyone else?

  Manxman Passenger Accommodation
Posted by: bsa499 - 23-08-2024, 10:20 AM - Forum: General Discussion - No Replies

We’re (hopefully) heading for the MGP races but, due to the dire Irish Sea weather, we've had two crossings from Liverpool cancelled. We’re now booked on the Manxman at 02:15 tomorrow (Saturday) out of Heysham. Because our previous crossings have been cancelled we’ve also lost our bookings in the Niarbyl lounge, as the lounge was full when we rebooked. Therefore I'd really appreciate advice on where else we should look for seating as comfortable as possible under the circumstances. I have travelled on the Manxman once before and sat in the Niarbyl lounge so I don’t really know the layout of the vessel. All sensible advice is welcomed.

  Thursday practice on and off
Posted by: H2pots - 22-08-2024, 06:58 PM - Forum: Manx Grand Prix & Classic TT - No Replies

Afternoon session went well but evening cancelled. The rain has started.

Rain radar i were watching this morning proved disappointingly accurate.

Friday is a big practice day with roads supposed to close at 9:30. Storm lilian coming through tonight, I'll plat snot if the roads close at half nine on the morning, it'll still be honking down then.

  German heroes!
Posted by: captainsparkledotcom - 21-08-2024, 01:21 PM - Forum: Manx Grand Prix & Classic TT - Replies (1)

On a lighter note, I just spoke with 2 chaps this morning that had travelled from Germany over the past few days on these 2!
Unfortunately, last night, the red one was stolen from outside the hotel (my lovely home town!!!) but , due to him having fitted a GPS, it was recovered this morning, in time for them to catch the afternoon boat across (or evening boat!)
