New incentives for marshals could be in the pipeline if a scheme proposed at the recent Marshals’ Association annual meeting gets off the ground.

The TT and Manx Grand Prix events rely on the good will of more than 500 marshals who give up time and holidays for little reward, just to achieve a minimum manning level in all weathers around the TT course.

‘What we want to do is introduce a loyalty scheme so each time someone marshals they get points, perhaps on a swipe card,’ said marshals’ chairman Terry Holmes.

The idea is to get sponsors on board to support the scheme so marshals can accumulate points then exchange them for things like travel discounts, meals and a whole range of other products and services. This would provide an incentive for marshals and give an extra reward for the most dedicated. Traders taking part would benefit from advertising publicity.

‘It’s to give marshals a chance to tell us how we can improve,’ Mr Holmes said.
