First foreign rider to win a TT
Can anyone help me with this one - was Omobono Tenni the first foreign rider to win a TT when he won the 1937 Lightweight?

There is the controversial version that it was Stanley Woods who came from EIRE, a foreign land even now !!

Well if the first 4 British riders had broken down in the 1907 single cylinder TT then a German, M Geiger, on an NSU would have been!!

Here is Omobono Tenni the first foreign winner of a TT after the finish.

The first foreign rider to win the Senior TT was Georg Meier on a BMW in 1939.

EIRE
Seriously, Eire is not part of the British Isles is it ??

Stanley won his first TT in the early 1920s so please give him credit where credit is due !!

Ian, the term "British Isles" is geographical, not political, so Eire is indeed part of the British Isles.

However, it's not part of the United Kingdom, which is the political unit comprising England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland (sorry Cargo, Norn Iron).

In 1922, when Stanley won his first TT, Ireland was in transition but not yet independent, so he wasn't a foreign rider at that time :!: :!:

If you can follow the Irish logic.

Told you not to go there :!: :!: :!:

Eire or to give it it's modern name Republic of Ireland is most definately part of the British Isles.

Having said that The British Isles refers to a geographical entity not a country or political entity.

Up to 1921 Ireland as a complete island was part of Great Britian. In 1921 there was partition and Northern Ireland came into exsistance as did Eire.
