Unbelievable or is it ????
The word unbelievable is being used to decribe the new 3D film about the TT.
Nit picking as usual, I find that the dictionary definition of this word is " too improbable for belief", "extremely unlikely", "no trust or confidence", "too dubious or improbable to be believed", or "so remarkable as to strain credulity" which shows that unbelievable may not the word to describe this great film......
I looked into 12 dictionaries and found only one (Collins) who defined the word as " extremely impressive, marvellous, terrible, shocking"
The Thesaurus gives these words:
a bit thick, a bit thin, absurd, antic, beyond belief, doubtable,
doubtful, dubious, dubitable, fanciful, fantastic, flimsy,
hard of belief, hard to believe, implausible, impossible,
improbable, incomprehensible, inconceivable, incredible,
mind-boggling, not deserving belief, open to doubt,
open to suspicion, passing belief, preposterous, problematic,
questionable, ridiculous, staggering belief, suspect, suspicious,
tall, thick, thin, unaccountable, unconvincing, unearthly,
unexpected, ungodly, unimaginable, unsubstantial, unthinkable,
unworthy of belief, weak
So which one fits 3DTT then ?????
(PS my wife is a crossword fanatic so that is why we have so many dictionaries !)
