RE: MGP Start Numbers
If memory serves me correctly it's usually few weeks after the TT. So shouldn't be too far away I hope.

Have you got your new fairings sorted?

8 weeks I think, that means 8 weeks to lose a stone should manage that.

I'll finish it one day!

Just one thing to point out for those riding. As per regs, we need to provide our own numbers this year. I can just imagine the mad rush down to dennis Trollope's after signing on when no number are given out.

RE: MGP Start Numbers
Well, 7 weeks (plus one day here) is first Saturday practice... but yes I plan to leave home on the 20th and arrive on (and likely miss) first practice session. I am happily doing all my final preparation chores... and just a few hours ago I got permission from work for the time off... WHEW..!! The boss is letting me miss a big week of meetings... I better bring him a nice shirt and hat...!!

There is NO place I would rather be late August..! See you there..!!!

Cheers..!!!

Maybe the delay (if there is one) is due to a last minute change in the regulations. I heard that, following an accident at the TT where a fuel cap came undone that R clips will be introduced. Anyone else know anything.

Getting fidgety now, sail six weeks Wednesday.

Yes, there's definitely a new regulation over a certain type of fuel cap as it was brought in for the "post TT" Billown meeting last month and we were told that it would apply at the Manx also so hopefully someone will be able to post exact details here??

Somebody has posted that they have there start numbers on another forum. So they may be sat on your door step when you get home.

Be good to know what the fuel cap issue is and what caps it applied to. I can't figure out any way that an R clip or lock wire could stop a cap coming open! Lock wire might hold a Monza cap shut but then what are you going to do at the fuel stop?

Don't forget 4 stroke classics must have oil containment this year as well.

I'll finish it one day!

This is correct and refers to the Monza type filler caps. A "R" clip must be fitted around the hook of the spring catch to prevent accidental opening during racing. This does not involve drilling the catch as the "R" clip rests against the body of the filler cap thus preventing the catch from moving. At the fuel stop, pull out the "R" clip and put it back again after refuelling.

This new regulation will be included in the final instructions

This is confusing to me... but hopefully I can just safety wire it..(no pit stop needed).. I already safety wire my oil filler cap... And thanks Smokey for mentioning this.. I would never of known....as it is not in the current on-line rules... whew..!!

Cheers..!!

Thanks for the advice Jeff, I will look at that later on.
I assume you mean the leg of the R clip to fit between the hook and the body of the cap to stop it being pushed back?
Are you going to require that these R clips are cable tied on the open end as well?

Ron, download the event regs from the MGP site appendix 2 section 1 I think refers to the oil containment requirements for classic bikes.

I'll finish it one day!

HI Smokey..! Yes I know all about oil containment.. we have run that in the states for some years now... and sadly it got tested last year.. but it worked.! OK, so I think I figured out how that R clip goes.. the ones I have do not fit.. will go shopping later today... one of those things I would rather do now than wait until I get there..

Thaks again..!!

Soon it will be MGP time..!!!

Cheers..!!!

RE: MGP Start Numbers
A cable tie would probably be best but we have to take into account the refuelling. We didn't lose any in TT week as the R clip seems to be a tight fit but the number used was relatively small. The Grand Prix will be a different matter and I would like more information. I am sure that the R clip will be necessary at the Southern next week so I will post my findings on this forum and the FAQ section.

RE: MGP Start Numbers
Hi Guys... OK, so first I went and took the one R clip I had, then ground it thinner to fit. The surface is a bit rough, but it works good. Then I went and bought the next size smaller R Clip.. it fit right in.. but I could still open the cap..! So, my thicker ground on clip is what I plan to use.. it works..! If I have the time, I will take a fine file to it, to make it nice and smooth...

Oh yes, Kev got the start numbers... 27 it is..!

Cheers..!!

Less than a month to go, one bike ready tuther a pile of parts and no frame, seems there is less time each year to get ready.
