The biggest news in the last decade of Scottish bike racing has just been announced with the creation of the Knockhill Motor Sports Club. Approved by both of the governing bodies for bike and car sport, the Knockhill Motor Sports Club is kicking off its inaugural season with a four-round National Permit bike race series from April to September 2011.

Knockhill Circuit will not be hosting any events organised by the KDMC (Kirkcaldy & District Motor Club) in 2011, but Circuit Owner Derek Butcher said: "Whilst the 2011 season sees the sun set on the KDMC organised racing events after a long number of years, we are all excited by the sunrise opportunity to reinvent the sporting spectacle, challenge and action for all riders in Scotland and further afield. It's a clean sheet of paper approach to meetings and if we get this right, we believe we can rejuvenate and re-energise the whole scene, organising race events that riders of all grades will really want to take part in."

The aims and objectives of the Club are as follows:

To provide a friendly, helpful organising club

To provide quality and exciting racing for competitors and spectators

To provide easy communication and entries with flexibility
To attract riders, the objective is to increase the racing spectacle, excitement and drama that is bike racing with the following activities being worked on for 2011:

New timetable with increased track time and races for each rider

End of season prize for the overall winners

Event by event prizes for class and race winners as well as for those setting the fastest laps, pole positions, most overtaking done, most laps led, best prepared bike, best presented team etc.

Circuit Events and Club Director Stuart Gray said:

"We are really excited about the prospects for 2011 for the whole of bike sport in Scotland. In the New Year we are confident that we will be in a position to announce some fantastic prizes and new initiatives to support riders at both ends of the grid. There is huge interest from the riders and teams and spectators so we are convinced that we are developing events that everyone wants. Riders can register their interest via email at club@knockhill.co.uk and regulations and info will be e-mailed out in due course. Riders can also join the Knockhill Motor Sport Club via the Knockhill website www.knockhill.com with Membership starting from only £10 for non-racing members; under 18's £15 and £20 for a full racing member."

The club will be holding a Riders Forum after the New Year where all riders, marshals and officials will be invited to share in the launch of the Club's first season of racing. Details will be announced via the Knockhill website at www.knockhill.com.
