Seeley’s singing in the rain

Triangle thunderbolt Alastair Seeley laid the foundations for an historic five-timer at the Relentless International North West 200 with a masterful victory in last night’s Superstock race.

The Tyco Suzuki British Superbike star pummelled the opposition to win by over 22 seconds in the wet from surprise package Lee Johnston from Maguiresbridge, who sealed the runner-up spot for Ballymoney team Millsport Racing on the exotic Ducati Panigale.

Cameron Donald was third on Wilson Craig’s Honda, but it was all about Carrick pocket rocket Seeley, whose commanding triumph on his BSB-spec GSX-R1000 has raised expectations that he can equal road race legend Phillip McCallen’s 1992 feat of five wins in a day tomorrow.

“That was a great result and the team gave me a good bike,” said Seeley.

“Hopefully that is the start of it.”

On a magnificent night for Northern Ireland, Dungannon’s Ryan Farquhar – fourth in the Superstock race – became the first ever winner of the Supertwin event at the North West, with team-mates Jeremy McWilliams and Michael Rutter finishing second and third on his KMR Kawasaki machines to round off a memorable evening on the Causeway Coast.
