Defending champion Tommy Hill claimed his second race win of the weekend at Oulton Park as the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship leader stormed to victory and warned his title rivals that he is aiming for a hat trick in the final race this afternoon.

Hill took the lead into Old Hall for the first time onboard the Swan Yamaha from the front row of the grid ahead of team-mate Noriyuki Haga and Josh Brookes. Luca Scassa's race ended on the opening lap when he ran wide at Cascades and ran across the grass and tipped off. At the front Hill initially fended off Haga and then Brookes before edging out a lead with an impressive string of fast, consistent laps.

Hill said:

"It was a tough race no matter how much you are in front as you have to keep pushing. I tried to settle down but that is when you start making mistakes and you cannot underestimate anyone. I made a few mistakes towards the end of the race but it is a fantastic result for the Swan Yamaha team and some more podium credits."

Brookes then fired the Tyco Suzuki ahead of Haga at Lodge on the fourth lap and despite an initial attack back from the Swan Yamaha rider Brookes was able to run solidly in second. As the Australian edged away Haga was then in the clutches of Michael Laverty and Shane 'Shakey' Byrne. The Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki moved ahead with a move on his Samsung Honda rival at Old Hall on the eleventh lap only to be passed back a few corners later.

The trio were inseparable and the positions shuffled again a few laps later as Byrne made a dive up the inside at Cascades with Laverty alongside on the run down to Shell. 'Shakey' carried the speed into the corner, running wide but was able to cut back and was ahead again by Brittens. Laverty then made a move on Haga on the penultimate lap at Old Hall to move fourth at Old Hall and fend off his Japanese rider. The Swan Yamaha rider now moves joint sixth in the overall standings with Ian Lowry who won the battle for sixth place that raged throughout the race.

Tommy Bridewell again carved his way up the order to finish seventh ahead of Alastair Seeley and Alex Lowes who were also in the pack fighting for sixth place. Graeme Gowland was able to claim tenth place from team-mate James Westmoreland on the penultimate lap. Samsung Honda's Jon Kirkham's bad run of Oulton Park luck continued as he crashed out at Shell whilst running in a top ten position.
