Mar-Train remains in title frame

Northern Ireland team Mar-Train Racing remains on course to lift the prestigious British Supersport title at the first attempt following a dramatic weekend at Assen.

Dublin rider Jack Kennedy finished second in the first race on the Mar-Train Yamaha after starting from 31st position on the grid, but the series leader ran out of luck when he crashed while out in front in Sunday’s second race, all but destroying his R6.

Nonetheless, Kennedy still leads the championship by four points ahead of this weekend’s penultimate round at Silverstone.

“We’re all pushing hard to win but I’d like to apologise to the Mar-Train team for giving them so much work prior to Silverstone,” Kennedy said.

“We’re still leading the championship, so hopefully it will be onwards and upwards from here.”

Team principal, Tim Martin, made the decision to step up to British championship level this season and it’s been a year to remember whatever the final outcome.

“We’re asking Jack to push hard at the front of a very competitive championship to try and bring success to both Mar-Train Racing and Yamaha and these things can happen,” he said.

“It’s undoubtedly given us extra workload before this weekend at Silverstone, but it’s a test of character, and something my team is more than capable of dealing with.”

“Come Friday we’ll be ready to re-load and go again.”
