POST TT RACES - SATURDAY 8TH JUNE 2013

Southern 100 Racing organisers of the Post TT Road Races are pleased to announce that the popular races have secured a major world-wide title sponsor – Metzeler.

Metzeler is one of the first tyre companies and started producing tyres for two-wheeled vehicles in 1892. The German brand is a motorcycle tyre manufacturer focused on quality and performance and has always been at the forefront of tyre technology. In 1933 it became the first to create a tyre made from synthetic rubber, which offers better grip and durability than natural rubber, while in the late 1970's the company produced Europe’s first tubeless tyre to allow riders to exploit fully the new developments in motorcycle handling. In its history Metzeler has always satisfied market demands with innovation and has always been an industry leader, setting trends that others are still trying to achieve.

After more than 100 years of motorcycle tyre development, Metzeler continues to lead the way when it comes to product innovation and is still dedicated to supplying riders with outstanding quality tyres.

George Peach, Race Secretary said:

‘The Post TT Road Races have proved popular with both riders and fans over the past twenty-one years with some exciting racing being seen around the Billown circuit.

‘The club is delighted to have secured such a high profile sponsor as Metzeler, their support ensures the continuation of the races which bring the curtain down on the annual TT meeting.’

Enrico d' Aloja, Metzeler Brand Manager commented:

“We are delighted to be involved for the first time in the exciting Post TT Races as title sponsor.

Metzeler has always been attracted by events which are close to the people such as road racing and have added to the history of motorcycling with many legendary riders.

“Moreover for us road racing has always been a strict test for our products, testing them to the limit in order to guarantee you produce outstanding quality tyres for general road use.”

The Post TT Road Races has brought the cream of the TT riders to the 4.25-mile Billown Course for this solo only event, first run in 1991. Such was the success of the first meeting; there was no hesitation in continuing the races in the following years. Years which have provided some exhilarating racing around the Southside pure roads course.

Through the years, subtle changes have been made to the classes and capacity of machines allowed in the races to ensure that event attracts the crème de la crème of the racing fraternity from the British Isles, Europe and farther afield.

King of the Roads, Joey Dunlop went on to win 11 races at this ‘Post TT’ meeting, with Ulster based Welshman Ian Lougher equalling that number in 2009 and over-taking that number in 2012, while Manx based Welshman Jason Griffiths achieved ten victories during his career placing him third in the table.

The Metzeler Post TT Road Races have been described as a fitting conclusion to the TT Festival, especially with the inclusion of 125cc & 250cc two-stroke races along with 400’s, 450 Singles, 650cc SuperTwins and 600cc Supersport races.

The Metzeler Post TT Road Races 2013 will take place on Saturday 8th June with practice and qualifying between 1.00pm and 4.00pm, followed by a three race programme beginning at 5.00pm.

(Should the Senior TT be postponed, the Metzeler Post TT Road Races will be held on Sunday 9th June).
