Rain and technical issues mar CRTs' second ECU test day in Sepang

On the second day of the CRTs’ ECU test at the Sepang International Circuit, wet weather and further technical glitches stunted progress for the trio of teams present.

Riders were greeted with rain at the circuit as the test commenced in the morning, with only Came IodaRacing Project’s Danilo Petrucci heading out for an exploratory four-lap run before returning to the pits for the day. The team, present with only one ECU for the two bikes, had been running without electronics as the team struggled with initial niggles. This did not help the fact that second rider Lukas Pesek was set to share the ECU with Petrucci, although the Czech rider was given the systems for his bike in the later part of the day for 19 laps, going third fastest.

Sitting out the second day completely was Avintia Blusens’ Hiroshi Aoyama, who decided it was not worth the risk in the wet conditions with his injured left wrist. The team’s Héctor Barberá was also still victim of an issue with the bike’s wiring loom, although he managed 20 laps once the rain settled down, finishing the day second quickest behind Petrucci.

NGM Mobile Forward Racing, which yesterday was slowed by a late delivery of parts, got more track time today, although like the other teams was dialling in the ECU, with Colin Edwards getting the majority of work in early on, yet still only seven laps, whilst Claudio Corti suffered problems from the start, and only managed eight for the day.

The day was rainy throughout, with all riders that made it on track running wet tyres. Times are also not a good indication of form, with most not getting in a hot lap – instead focussing on gathering data to feed the new ECU.
